The Wisconsin Annual Conference supports the largest population of Hmong immigrants and Hmong-Americans in the United States. Mosinee United Methodist Church is part of Circuit 9 in Wisconsin, which also includes the Hmong American Community United Methodist Church in Wausau, and Hmong members at Rothschild-Highland UMC.

One challenge for Hmong Methodists is the lack of native-language preachers. To help address this need, Circuit 9 Methodist churches are co-sponsoring a Hmong translation of the standard Basic Lay Speakers Course.

Once the translation is finished and authorized by Discipleship Resources, the publisher of the lay speaking courses, Rev. David Vang of Highland has six people already signed up to take the course! Our hope is to then offer the Hmong version of the course to Methodists and other Christians throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, California, and areas with large Hmong populations.

This is a national and perhaps global ministry to develop Hmong Christian leaders, and it is being spearheaded right here in central Wisconsin! Mosinee UMC is committing $200 to this project. If you’d like to contribute, please mark your check “Hmong Lay Course.”
